WELCOME!

Our launch day today is a day many of us have been working toward for close to a year. Months of planning and thousands of hours of work have gone into the creation of the Heroes Support Network. From the planning through the execution, people from all over our great city of Pittsburgh and beyond have come together in support of the Heroes Support Network initiative.

It was important for our team to build the Heroes Support Network as an online virtual community center. We truly wanted to build something that met the needs of both our military and civilian communities in Southwestern PA. The support from our civilian and business communities for our military families in Pittsburgh is tremendous, however we identified a disconnect in that support reaching our military families. With that end game in mind, we took tireless effort to ensure that we understood what the needs of our active duty, reserve, retired and veteran service members and their families currently are in our community. After months of that research, we heard you loud and clear and we hope that we were able to build an interactive place where you can easily locate information and services. Our goal is for the Heroes Support Network to help you to feel the tremendous support that our Pittsburgh Community has for you.

This Heroes Support Network would not exist without the unrelenting dedication of a small group of people who VOLUNTEERED their time, energy and creative ideas for months on end. To all of you who attended seemingly endless meetings, stayed up until all hours of the night getting things just right, recruited volunteers and funding and just gave your heart and soul to this project, we thank you! To our one extremely generous guardian angel, who insists on remaining anonymous, but funded the majority of the HSN project - our gratitude is beyond measure.

To Senior Master Sergeant John Lee, founder of Heroes Supporting Heroes (a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization), and someone I am proud to call my friend, there are really no words to express our thanks for your unrelenting passion and commitment to this project. John and his family’s complete dedication to serving our community is extraordinary. In addition to their personal 20+ years of military service, John and his wife Sheri along with their two children, are an inspiration to others and we commend you for all that you have accomplished in such a short time. Together with the other members of the Heroes Supporting Heroes Board of Directors, we thank you for agreeing to take on the Heroes Support Network and integrate it as part of your organization. Heroes Supporting Heroes already provides tremendous and life changing assistance for our military families, veterans and senior citizens, however we hope the addition of the Heroes Support Network will help to further your organization's mission and exponentially increase the number of lives you organization touches in our community.

And finally to all of our local military, in particular the 911th Air Lift Wing and the 171st Refueling Wing Commands - thank you for your unending support throughout HSN's development and for allowing our community to be a part of your installations. Without your invitation to participate and continuous efforts to develop ways to link our civilian and military communities, this project would not exist. To all of our active duty, reserve, retired and veteran service members and your families. THANK YOU for your service to our country and to our community. Our goal is to ensure that the Heroes Support Network will serve you in new and innovative ways for years to come.

Happy Launch Day Heroes Support Network!

With My Sincerest Thanks,

Kristi Hilbert, Director of the Heroes Support Network
